NYC Explores New Construction Safety Laws

In an effort to reduce the number of accidents on construction work sites, the New York City Department of Buildings has increased the issuance and enforcement of construction violations. The DOB's initiative comes after an alarming number of deaths and accidents on such work sites in the last few years.

E-Cigarette Explosions Causing Concern

A New York resident was seriously injured while smoking an e-cigarette. The device, alternatively known as a vaporizer, exploded in his face. The blast knocked out his teeth, ripped a hole in his tongue, and caused his hands to be covered in burns. "It was like an M80 bomb went off in my mouth," the man, Kenneth Barbero, told CNN. 

LIRR Commuter Train Crashes

A Long Island Rail Road train derailed during rush hour this morning in Brooklyn, injuring 103 people. Fire Department officials stated that the train from Far Rockaway derailed at Atlantic Terminal in Brooklyn when it struck a bumping block at track 6 in the terminal around 8:20 a.m., causing the first car to come off of the rail.  Approximately 700 people were on board the train at the time of the incident.
