BMW was recently forced to recall over 1 million cars and SUVs due to faulty crankcase heaters. According to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the heater, which is used to prevent the positive crankcase ventilation valve from freezing, was found to have manufacturing irregularities. BMW stated that valve wiring and connectors can corrode, resulting in fires.

While a BMW spokesman said that the possibility of fire is low, he urged people to keep the recalled models outside to prevent possible fires from spreading. The wires and connectors can still overheat even when the vehicle is left unattended. So far, only four drivers have reported injuries. You can find out if your BMW was recalled by entering your Vehicle Identification Number on BMW’s website.

If you or anyone you know has been injured due to this faulty technology in these BMW models, please contact our office for a free consultation.
