Earlier this month in New York City, a woman was seriously injured when the elevator she was riding in at her apartment building fell and crashed more than four floors. The force from the impact caused the woman to break her spine and other bones.
According to a Department of Buildings official, the elevator was illegally installed in the 1940s and was in need of repairs. Furthermore, the elevator was never registered with the department for annual inspections, as is required in New York.
There are more than 70,000 elevators and escalators in New York City. The Elevator Unit provides helpful Elevator Safety guidelines for those who use them in their daily lives. If you, or someone you know has been injured in an elevator accident, contact the Law Office of Louis Grandelli.
