The Law Office of Louis Grandelli recently obtained a $1 million settlement for a Staten Island construction worker who was injured at a construction site in Manhattan. The settlement was obtained by Louis Grandelli and Ari Lieberman during a mediation following the close of discovery.
The plaintiff, a tile setter, was injured while working at the Fulton Street subway project in April 2012 when he tripped and fell down a staircase. He sustained injuries to his back and wrist, requiring surgery. The plaintiff alleged that the general contractor, Skanksa USA Northeast Inc., failed to provide the necessary safety devices for the work he was performing on the day of the accident and failed to keep his work area free of debris. In addition, the plaintiff alleged that the general contractor and a subcontractor violated the Industrial Code by failing to properly illuminate the working area.
The defendants and the plaintiff each submitted pre-trial motions to the Court for summary judgment, which were pending at the time of the settlement. The defendants had disputed that they were liable for the subject accident.
